    Cajun Outboards, Addis, LA

Well i am completely amazed at the response i just recieved from this place. A little history on the situation first. I purchased my boat from cajun new. it is still under a complete warranty. i dropped it off two days ago for its yearly service and to have the live wells repaired (port side wont recirculate, starbord wont pump). I asked if I could get it back by friday, atleast the live wells (want to fish false river friday night) they said they would see. I called back today and they said they couldnt; it would be 3 weeks before they could touch it so i said i would pick it up and the parts i need for the livewells and fix it myself (not that difficult to do) and asked when i could schedule an appt for the service needed (oil change, fuel filters, check plugs, etc). they said they do not schedule appts...i would have to leave it with them for 3 WEEKS IN THE WEATHER!!!!! i said yall dont make apts? he said nope never worked before. so my amazement is what kind of business cant manage apts? maybe they need a new service manager? and i wonder if they would pay for any damage done to my carpet, gel coat, plastics, electronics, if i left my boat out there in the elements for 3 weeks? anybody know another skeeter dealer around? im done with them....

The skeeter dealer here in lafayette is the same way, no appt. When I had my skeeter, I took it to Mike's Marine in Broussard. You call them and tell them what you want done, and they make out a ticket, when it's about two days out they will call you to bring your boat. My boat was never there more than two days, only had regular service and livewell pumps changed, nothing major. I haven't been to them in a couple of years, but that's how they used to operate. Oh BTW, the owner was the service guy at the Laf Skeeter dealer when I bought my boat, then opened his own shop. I know it's a little ways from BR to have service done, but well worth keeper your boat out of the sun IMO.

Re: Cajun Outboards, Addis, LA (bassbug)

My buddy had a similar experience with them recently when he purchased a hydraulic jack plate from Cajun. They told him it would be a week or so to get it in. After not hearing from them in a week, he called and the guy had to "go see" if it was in. After holding on the phone for a while the guy finally came back and said they had it. My buddy asked to set up a time to bring his boat to have it installed and the guy told just to drop it off whenever and they would get to it. My buddy asked if it would be ready by Friday if he dropped it off on Monday morning. The service guy told him there was no way for him to know when it would be done. So basically my buddy would have to leave his boat there indefinitely. He ended up picking up the jack plate and getting help installing it himself.

No defending them but the problem with appointments as that is how i try to work on boats, is that i setup say 3 boats for next week and 1-2 dont show up then i am out money that i could have been workin on others. So while i understand your pain with no appt's i also understand why some wont do them. i just dont want 10-15 boats sittin my yard waiting to be worked on. So i try to line up what i know i can get done that week. But it is a pain when they dont show.

Dougs Right. Appointments are non existent in most boat dealers. My take. Service crew is the riggin crew. New sold boats get the priority.
Can't help on the skeeter boat deal, but Breaux and Daigle does service Yamaha and if you call them you can explain your situation with Cajun and tell them what you need done. I am like 5 miles from him so I usually drop off in mourning and pic up in the evening. I ask ahead when it would be a good time to bring in. He will be honest with you on this. He has most all parts or gets them pretty quick. Ask for RP and he will give the scoop. Just tell him I sent you Brad.

Not being able to make an appointment sucks , but unfortanetly thats how a lot of mechanics work around here !!!!! BUT , being that that is where I bought my boat and it was still under full warranty , I would tell them to kiss my azz and NEVER do business with them agian !!!!!!!!

This is the busy season for boat dealers, so I understand the appointment thing. Like said above, at most dealerships the service guys are the riggers, and with the economy like it is most dealerships have cut back on staff. It sucks, but it is what is.

I second Breaux and Daigle. Never kept mine for more than a few days, and I didn't buy this one from them. The next one I will.

I don't agree at all that you can't make an appointment for working on a boat, especially basic maintenance. We service from Baton Rouge to New Orleans and down to Fourchon and we make appointments all the time. No you could not fill your day with appointments but you can surely make one for the first thing in the morning every day. If you have to take a credit card and charge for the appointment even if it is a no show. One or two appointments a day would not hurt work flow especially if they are 3 weeks backed up. You just give them the card number and your appointment is monday morning 3 weeks from now. If its a no show, you just double billed an hour. Whats the problem. I fully understand anyone with a nice rig not wanting it in the weather for weeks at a time. Someone is missing the boat on this one. I would gladly pay a 50 or even 100 dollar fee just to set the appointment. Wish I could fix outboards.

Yes he does plus your boat stays in a closed in garage. The way i look at it I keep my boat inside and spotless why bring it somewere to get worked on and it sits outside and comes back filthy.

I called EK and he is gonna call me when a space opens up where he can park mine inside for my service. I will still have to wait but, my boat will be inside. Even helping out the customer a little bit will go a long way in bringing back the dollars again and again.

    Re: (DOUGMCGEEFTD)

Same here with a local dealer. Back when I bought my boat I had to get some work done that should have been done during the prep when paper work was signed. So instead of workin on it (only two weeks old) it had to sit out in the lot for a few weeks. I under stand certain times may be a busy but when its new off the lot I would think they would try and satisfy their new customer. I dealt with them a few more time and everytime it sat out in the lot the longest was 3 weeks. Needless to say to say I don't deal with them anymore. The one I use have been awsome to deal with and on the busy season they will write a ticket and call you when it's your time. Never left the bait there for more than two days.
