    Kllr Bee...1995 225 efi mods

    Alright, I read your article on the 96 and later mods and it got me wondering. Just bought a '95 Ranger 491 and this motor looks new under the cowling and it's a one owner boat that wasn't run that much. The guy said he doubts if it has more than 150 hours on it but you know how that goes. I am no genius around an outboard other than maintenance. Anything I do I would most likely have to take to a good shop.
    What are the best mods for performance increase on a '95 225 efi? I don't want to get crazy or wrap up $5k, just a few simple mods to make it perform better. Eventually, I'll replace it with a 225 ProXs but will keep it as long as I can. I had a 150 XR6 a while back and did Boyesen reeds and an exhaust tuner which really woke it up. Any other info you can throw me about this motor would be greatly appreciated. This should keep you busy for a while. Thanks.

    Look at the post on XB mods. Anything done there can be done to your motor. Raising the back part of the cowl will help. Pics of that are in the common question section. A newer style exhaust tuner would be a must because early EFI motors had a more restrictive tuner in them.

    Thanks Richard. Based on what you've written and what I've read on here...I think I'll do the Reeds, Exhaust tuner, and upper cowling mod. I'm also considering sending the injectors to Brucato to be cleaned and flow tested based on your and Don's comments about burning pistons. Sounds like a good step just to be on the safe side.
