Triton boats was sold to Platinum Equity Fishing today. They own Ranger, Stratos, Champion. Randy Hopper( ie-Ranger), will run all bassboat production.

Do yall think the quality of the brands will start to fall apart? Thats normally what happens when large coporations start to buy up companies. Are they going to be produced out of the same plant or will they just be a "silent owner"?

This was actually on the radar for quite some time now.. All the brands are going to be produced in Flippin, Ark.

    Re: Triton boats sold (BackLash007)

I hope not. I was just joking in my last post. However, i would never buy a Triton or a Ranger, been in both and dont care for them. But Stratos and Champion are great all around boats in my opinion. Too each his own at the very least i hope they all maintain their individual hull design to some extent, with all these companies buyin each other out, competition and inivation will fly out the window! all brands that will still be produced. the only good thng i see is earl bentz is going with them to flippin. Maybe earl can take over the deal there and make all of them better.

I'ts Earl Bentz that I would worry about. How many boat companies has he started and sold?

    Re: Triton boats sold (DOUGMCGEEFTD)

I can see Bentz and Hopper in a pizzing war. Both used to being the top dog. Bentz won't stay long working for someone else. When you merge good and not so good together you usually bring down the good not the other way around. The way to save $$ in mergers is to buy in quantity and reduce # of employees and overhead. To buy in quantity means putting the same product in all brands, and if the person really in charge (PE) doesn't care to have the best quality then you won't have the best materials or workers. I think what was left of Ranger and Champion are gone as we knew them,,Hope this doesn't happen and they will make them better for a sale down the road but $$ will get in the way.

wait till you try and do a warranty claim on the "lifetime" hull warranty. I had a buddy with a stratos who bought the boat before they were sold. The gel coat was seperating from the hull on the underside and they will not cover it

Problem today in all business is too many are run by a board room, not a person with a vested interest. The person in charge on site is driven by compensation based on short term profits not long term stability.

    Re: Triton boats sold (SUSHII)

platinum equity is a marketing group who could care less about fishing. the guy running the show mr hopper could care less about anything other than a ranger so figure how the champion, stratos, and now triton guys fit in! Just my opinion from what i am seeing. the only hope triton has is earl bentz is staying on in some capacity so maybe just maybe he can save them from being killed. I hate they killed champion and hope they dont kill triton but the longer they are in pe's & hoppers hands the worse it is for them. Hopefully someone else will arise who wants to buy the brand and save it. I am hearing of some rangerowners not having great luck with warranites as well. This is a good time to be in a family/individual owned boat such as bullet , bass cat, alley, blazer!

    Re: Triton boats sold (DOUGMCGEEFTD)

I agree on the Champs as sad as that is. When those 3 need retooling they are probably history. I think it would be more economical to tackle the stratos and triton line. I also read Hopper saying something to the effect that Ranger is the top dog in Flippin. That tells me champ/stratos and triton are going to be built as second tier boats now.

He actually said Ranger is the flagship. I personally think there is at least 1 brand built there that is better possibly 2. So at best they are tied for second and probably third. And I loved the Rangers I had but they were different boats in a different time.

I hope we can keep the smaller family owned builders alive. Its gonna be tough for them. I would pay more to stay in a Cat or go to a Bullet, Blazer, or Phoenix. Can't believe I said that.

Blazer is doing just fine. As a matter of fact, be on the lookout for a new bassboat model.
