    Atchafalaya Basin Map card ?

My partner and I will be fishing the Fishers of Men Regional tournament on the Atachafalaya River basin out of Morgan City in late October. Are there any commercially available maps available for Humminbird or Lowrance GPS/Sonar units? I have looked at the area with google maps and feel that we will need all the help available to make it out alive! Finding some good places to fish would be great also.

What I am considering doing is getting a chip and using it for the week we are there then trying to sell it at a discounted rate since I will only need it that one trip. Any help on the best option for that area is greatly appreciated.

I think they quit making Map Create, that is one of the best down here. If nothing else I can loan you my chip for the tx.

Thank goodness for those of us who still have mapcreate. You can also buy the Navionics equivalent of the Mapcreate software called Navplanner. I havent used Navplanner yet but will be soon to manage waypoints etc for newer units with Navionics chips.

Roger I may have to take you up on that, you are very generous. I don't know about the Bullet coment, I have an old Triton but we will probably be in my partners Legend.

I just got used to the lakes all being full of timber after moving down here to East Texas from West Texas and now we are going to fish a massive swamp connected by a million miles of bar ditches full of gators! To say I am nervous would be a bit of an understatement...heck I got nervous driving over the north portion on I-10 headed to Alabama in my truck. I am excited about the trip though to say the least.

    Thanks for the help,
    Jason

the navionics chips are a little less detailed as the mapcreate chips correct? and humminbird units only accept the navionics cards right? i wish i could use my old mapcreat lowrance card that i had in my previous boat, with all my favorite spots marked and better details in the spillway.

I thought humminbird units only read the navionics cards and the mapcreates are lowrance based.

I could be wrong but I am almost positive that mapcreate is lowrance based only, and the navionics uses navplanner to create trips, waypoints and whatnot but does not allow you to make any readable cards with it.

it is lowrance only but if he has access to either the lowrance would be the way to go down here. i got the hbird in the bay boat and the navionics leaves a lot to be desired.

Yes my partners boat has the best of both worlds. A Lowrance unit in the dash with GPS and sonar and he just added a Humminbird with GPS, sonar, and side imaging on a ram mount at the drivers console so we will be able to use whatever we can get to help us navigate.

get a map create for the lowrance and a navionics south platnum for the hbird. Side imagining not gonna help too much down here in the spillway usually got pretty stained water

Se imaging is bad to the bone, you could find every underwater stick around you with it, bad to the bone

I posted something in the want to buy section on here and got the mapcreate 6.3 with all the accessories for $55 to my door. maybe someone else will have one they are willing to part with. Now I just have to figure out how to use it.

Doug, Ken used to make chips for lowrance. Don't know if he still does but may be worth looking in to . Navionics won't help you much down here. I have the cards and to be honest they are not much better than the resident maps on the humminbirds.

Texfish. I see you are from Tyler. We fished the FOM regional on Palestine last year. Caught a ton of fish, ended up with a small check ( lost enough last day to get us in top 10 easy). A buddy of mine here in LA is a forrester and showed me a website called sonris.com. It's a LA dept of natural resources site. Shows topo maps kinda like google earth, but better detail and you can play with it and get it to show lakes, bayous etc anywhere in LA. It also has a toolbar you can play with that if you find a place you can map out distances. It would be good to spend some time on and print out some maps, zoom them in as far as you want, and laminate them. Hope this helps for you and any of the LA BBC's.
