I broke off a drill bit in the speedo hole of my 250 Pro xs. Will it be possible to push the bit out from the inside when the LU is removed to replace the water impeller?
Thanks for your help.

Take the hose lose where it comes out of the lower unit and blow compressed air back down the hose, this should force it out. Can't get to it even when you take the lower unit off to change impeller.

Just remember to place a 2x4 block in front of the gearcase to "catch" the drillbit (in case it's propelled out of the case at high speed).![]()

Thanks everyone for your help. I blew out from the top where the hose goes into the lower unit. I dug around from the front of the LU with a barbed hook for a while and did this until the hole was unplugged. However, the 1" of drill bit did not come back out through the hole. It is somewhere inside the LU.
My question now is whether this will hart anything having the loose drill bit inside the LU and whether it will be possible to have the loose bit dumped out when the LU is removed at a later time.
Thanks for your reply.
You will NOT be able to "dump it out".
You may, however, be able to remove the shift shaft seal carrier, allowing you to extract the bit from the upper side of the pitot chamber with a magnet. Extreme caution must be taken to ensure that all seals are back in their proper place (if you're uncomfortable with this, enlist the assistance of a qualified (preferably certified or master) technician.![]()

Don,
Will leaving the drill bit inside the LU hurt anything? Thanks!
It should be stuck in the water tube and not floating around the LU... unless you unhooked the tube from the lower end.

Not likely to hurt anything... except that the speed will not function properly until it's removed.![]()
