Sad day 05 250xs lower unit torn up

I have an 250xs optimax with about 220 hours. Six hours into tournament saturday running WOT at 5900 motor started making a bad rattling noise and slowing down when i set boat down off plane the motor had a terrible vibration. I thought she had blown up. Shut it off, then started it back up motor sounded fine shifted into gear and liked to shake the windsheilds off. Pulled cover off thinking commpressor was gone. Alll looked good no bolts broke and belt on compressor still looked good. Got home and pulled prop and drained lower unit oil and nothing but shavings. No signs of water oil still was blue mercury prem plus. Just was wandering possible what could have happened? What would be the best fix? I have no warrenty left. Do new lowerunits come with a warrenty or should i try and have the old one rebuilt with possibly a 30 day warrenty? Wish i new which way to go. What would the price of a new lowerunit? Torgue master with 1.75 gear ratio.

Get you a new "reman" from Merc with a 1 year warranty. (They're new anyways)
    Just called "reman"

5600 for a new onefro Mercury. I know I got one for my 05 250xs two months ago. Driveshaft sheared at the pinion gear. My fear is in you statement that the "Merc. Premium Plus Oil was still blue and had no water". It should have had Merc. High Performance Gear Lube in it. Premium Plus is for the oil injection system. Could this have caused your failure????

Best bet is to get that one broke down to see what failed, precisely. That way, you can make an "educated" decision as to what your best route for repair would be.

If you don't have someone local that you're comfortable with on this, feel free to give me a call. You'd be welcome to send it out to us, and we'll "steer you right".

+2 on what Don said. I'd also call Titus to see what he might have in stock.
