I think I have a problem

I have a 98 Mariner 260 on an Allison XB2002. Went run it this morning. A 28 Chopper turned 7000rpm at 96.7 mph. I tried a 26 Chopper that had been cut. Don't know what cut it is. It also turned 7000rpm and the speed was 85. What is the possibility that my computer has lost its program? My prop guy said the 26 should have turned 600 rpm more than the 28. There is a lot of soot on the back of the motor and the plugs are black.

Soot on the prop barrel indicates rich condition, might try sending your injectors to Brucato for cleaning and calibration sounds like they are fowling..

Thanks Jay. There is soot an the prop, the back of the motor and even some on the back of the boat.

have you checked your temp sensor.

If I knew what a temp sensor is and where it is located, I would be glad to check it.
