Anyone have any details on the accident on Lake Barkley involving Bill Chumbler? I heard that he hit a submerged log and had to be life flighted out.

He was fishing out of Kuttawa and hit the stump of a log that has been there since last years floods. The log is just above the surface but i am sure with the boat running you could not see it...
That sob is hard to see, hope someone pulls it up now.
We do play a dangerous game.........Waterways are not a mapped out interstate system with yellow lines and caution signs.......![]()
for the fellow sportsman involved.
Is that the Billy Chumbler who played basketball at MSU and coached high school basketball around southern Illinois and western Kentucky?
I talked with him this evening. The boat in front of him swerved to miss it and he did strike the log on the drivers side. The impact threw him up in the air and he landed on the console, which resulted in the broken vertebrae. He went so high out of the seat the kill switch was pulled. He will be having steel rods put on Sunday morning.

Actually the water is over this log. there had been a jug atatched to the log but apperently it has broken loose. Fished out of there today and you can not see the log.for Bill. I was told today he broke his back.
I fish out Kuttawa sometimes, can someone post the approximate location of this log stump. It may be helpfull to many.
It is maybe 100 yds off the left bank just as you clear the point where the pocket runs back along the golf course. Thats as close as I can recall and decribe. If you leave Katawa ramp hang to the right side of the bay. If you leave mineral mounds either hug the bank to the left or swing way around to the right until past where you would go into the shallow pocket by the golf course.
