Help wanted with diagnosing problem

I have a 1995 Evinrude 200 hp Vindicator. It starts fine. Idols fine. Throttles up in neutral fine. But about 25 % of the time when I go to throttle up to get on pad, there is nothing, like it's not getting fuel? (but throttles fine in neutral) And just stalls. I restart it, go back to neutral let it idol for a minute then try again, some times it does it a couple times in a row? I just purchased this boat about a month ago. The previous owner had the carbs rebuilt a little over a year ago. Water pump was changed out at the same time as the carb rebuild. Plugs were changed out back in May. I am planning on taking it to the local mechanic next week, but any help from you guys would be great!

I wonder if your problem isn't with the lift pump? My 05 rude had the same symtoms as your engine. it just would not idle in gear without sputtering, but once in neutral it would idle just fine. I wish you luck with your problem. Dave P.S. Once the lift pump was replaced my motor purred in gear and idle.

Carb motors don't have lift pumps.
