99' FICHT 225 tilit/trim question

My tilt/trim unit is getting power to it but I believe there is a seal that has gone bad. I can see a water and trim fluid mixture exuding from the unit where the tilt ram comes out. It has a very rough sound to it and has started working intermittenly. I opened the cap on the reservoir and a gray watery fluid came out. I then pumped new tilt and trim fluid in, raised and lowered the engine several times and repeated this several times. This gets the tilt/trim to work a little better but it is definately not fixing the problem. So, is there a seal replacement kit available for this? or is it a full replacement situation? The engine is a 99' Evinrude FICHT 225 model E225FPLEEO. Thanks for any advice and info any of you may provide.

You can replace the cap on the tilt cylinder but the TNT assembly needs to come out of the bracket. Needs to be done on a bench with a vice. Need a spanner wrench to unscrew the cap, then the complete tilt ram will come out as one piece. Make sure there are no gouges or pitting on the back side of the ram. If so the ram needs to be replaced also or the problem will continue. Tilt rams are in the $700 range so if that is the case look for a used TNT assembly off a blown motor.

Looks like its about $70.

Here's my adventure with a DIY trim/tilt overhaul. After getting over a few hurdles, I managed to get the job done. Still running strong. (knock on wood)
