    GPS unit for the truck

I'm wanting to get a GPS unit for my truck. A good one that will get me around in new towns and to marinas. Any suggestions on makes and models?

    Thanks

Re: GPS unit for the truck (Set The Hook)

I will also be watching this post...In the discussion with my wife about what to get our daughter for Christmas my wife suggested a GPS for her car. I told her that I had two GPS units on my boat her instant reaction was well "since you are familiar with them you can pick one out,and pay for it" I don't think a Lowrance 520 would be good for a car so I would also like a suggestion

Any of the Garmin Nuvi units should do fine. Make sure the maps are the latest version when you buy it. If not call or e-mail Garmin and they usualy will get the new maps to you at no charge. I like the wide screen versions like the Nuvi 255w. They are easier to see.

I have a Garmin Nuvi and a Tom Tom. The Nuvi is by far superior and well worth the money.

    Greg

We have a nuvi ..... so you know, it does a great job even on the small back roads down here around the lake.

I've been happy with my TomTom 330. It seems to do a good job and isn't hard to operate.

Thanks for all the responses. Seems like the Garmin nuvi is the GPS unit of choice. Let's narrow it down some more. What model of the Garmin nuvi would you guys recommend?

Re: GPS unit for the truck (Set The Hook)

Whichever you decide, I would highly recommend getting one that allows you to key in coordinates.

That's a rarity on most units.

I like the Garmin Nuvi a lot, but they didn't have one with that capability in my price range. Got a TomTom widescreen for $100 one day on http://www.woot.com and have been very satisfied with it. Not quite as user friendly as a Garmin, but it gets the job done.

A lot of the places I go to don't have a physical address (ex: farm fields in Missouri) so punching in coordinates allows me to go exactly where I need to.

Re: GPS unit for the truck (mdunc)

Garmin, let's you key in intersections. I love mine, only a couple of times have I not been able find it on the GPS due to a new road. I use it for work when going to jobsites.
