    Fish Kill on Barkley???

Anyone here about this? On the news today KDFW said that several yellow and white bass along with some drum were found dead. They said looks like it was some kind of virus that killed them and they had ruled out some kind of toxin in the water. Also said it did not seem to affect bluegils and LM bass. The areas affected were Eddy creek and Little River. Those are 2 big feeder creeks and they are a long ways apart. Seems funny that would affect those 2 areas and nowhere else.

I really hate to hear this......saw some of the best white bass action I've seen in a long time about two weeks ago - but that was on KY.

I heard from someone who lives down there it included LM bass and shad as well. Happened in the back of both creeks after one of the heavy rainfalls. I have heard of smaller lakes/ponds turning over quickly after a rain and killing the fish, but seems unlikely down there. Since I'm no biologist I'll defer to the experts, but a virus that far apart sounds "fishy" to me.

Here is what we have heard locally so far ..... It started in Hopson Creek last week .... by the weekend, it had affected Eddy Creek and Little River .... Fish and Wildlife are saying that Bass and Crappie were not affected .... as of last night, they had no clue what was going on. Everything I have seen so far as far as pics etc had nothing showing but whites ...........

I live on Little River and it was a STINKING MESS!!!!!!! Happens every year when the farmers spray and the rains hit. Fish of ALL kinds are killed and it seems as if most of them find a way to wash up on the bank around my dock!!!!! This year the lake looked like it was covered in snow balls.

GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Where is the EPA when you need them????????????????????????

Re: Fish Kill on Barkley??? (Joe Skeeter)

I fished Little River the Saturday of this mess. There were hundreds of thousands of dead fish. It was mostly stripes and Shad, but I did see LM and BG dead also. I was upset enough to email the DNR, and they came back with some story that it was a virus or something. They said they estimated 4,000 dead fish. I replied back that I didn't know where they were looking, but I hit more than 4,000 dead fish with my prop. There had to of been hundreds of thousands of dead fish. I have never seen anything like this. Somehow that response was forwarded to the EPA! This past weekend I fished Barkley in the Eddy Creek area. There is something in that water! I fished it with my brother in his boat. He, just like me, wipes down his boat after each fishing trip. We pulled his boat out, and I have never seen anthing like it. His boat, every inch that was in the water, was covered with something. I have no idea what it was, but it felt like sandpaper when you wiped it. It would not come off! There is definitely something in that water down down there! I am not talking a scum line, but every part of the boat that was in the water was like that!
