    blown bearing on stratos trailer....AGAIN!

I have a 1999 Stratos ez load single axle trailer. Left for a 2 week vacation in Maine approx. 500 miles away. I made it about 40 miles until I noticed smoke pouring out of my port side tire and the wheel was wobbling pretty bad. I pulled over immediately. the bearings were shot and the wheel almost came off completely. I had the boat towed and repair shop said its a custom trailer and cannot get an axle and wants to charge $1000 to rebuild it. I had the exact same thing happen last year on the same wheel. it was completely rebuilt by a mechanic. What would be the cause of the same failure in the same wheel both times? Should I just look into buying a new trailer? (with duel axles for sure!) I need to get back on the water!!!!!!!!

A grand? Wow!!! Don't know about the Stratos trailer, but for my bass boat trailer a brand new axle complete with hubs, rotors, and bearings was just over 300 including shipping a couple of years ago.

First thing I'd do is get out of a boat dealership and to a trailer shop.

I also think I'd get on the Stratos forum for more info about the trailer.
    So many honey-dos . . . . . so little motivation

I have a hard time believing an EZ Loader trailer has a "custom" axle. You should check out these folks who carry a ton of axles ready to ship.

Where is the trailer located now? A grand for an axle is nuts.

if it was closer to trumbull I'd have a look at it, even if the axle is trashed a new stub could be welded onto it.

For $1000, you could almost buy a new trailer, lol.

Specs of boat and current trailer?
