    RANGER TRAILER ELECTRONIC BRAKES???? HELP

    I am looking at buying a 1994 374 ranger with brakes on trailer..the owner informs me without 'electronic brake system' the trailer wont back up ..it will lock...i am new at this..i thought i could tow and then disconnect to back..or is there a way to adapt my Ford Explorer to this ;electric brake system"????

    You will need a 5 prong plug, the 5th prong will go to your reverse light, so when you put your vehicle in reverse, it will power that 5th prong to the trailer, which will activate a solenoid on your trailer which will bypass brake fluid back into your master cylinder and will let you back the trailer up. If you have a ford and the travel trailer plug on the back, then your reverse power in that plug does not have power. You will have to go to the ford house or Auto Parts store and get a fuse for the reverse pin. Ford doesn't put them in from the factory.
