    Replacing trailer bunks

I am sure that this has been discussed many times, but I will ask anyway.I have an 18ft Xpress sitting on a Backtrack trailer..The bunks are in need of replacing but I was curious on how to do this, other than at the boat ramp.Do I need a floor jack/jackstands? It looks like the boards have a nut pressed in to them but hard to tell under the carpet.Alos,Bass Pro Shops sells carpeted bunk boards that are ready to go for 33.98 a pair for 6 footers. Is this the way I should go or get the carpet, glue, boards and build my own? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Do yourself a favor and launch the boat or use a lift to remove from the trailer. You can replace them while the boat is on the trailer but it can be a real PIA. They are probably mounted using a lag bolts. When you replace them you may want to go to a bunk cover instead of carpet. Check these out.

I've replaced the bunks on my previous boat without removing it from the trailer. Jack up one side of the boat at a time and replace that side bunks. Then do the opposite side. Wasn't really any mor difficult than removing the boat. Use 2x6 pressure treated wood. Chamfer the ends at a 45 degree angle. I ran bolts down from the top of the bunk and countersunk. Wrap with carpet, glue, and staple the edges.
