hey this is juan on my stratos 1989 285 its rated for a 175 the transom is good sofar if i put that venom 25 on it and be easy onthe take off do youthink that wiil still mess my tansom up if so what year stratos if you know will hold that 225 i know ill more than likelyneed a 201 thanks
Yes, when the 285 was built it was designed for the 60* motors. OMC gave it a 175 HP rating based on the 60* 175 which is much lighter than the 90 * motors. Save that 90* for a 201 pro xl.
but the 60* motors didn't come out until '91 or '92 I thought?? If it's an '89 boat how could it be designed for a 60* motor?

Good catch! I immediately think of the 285's as the Pro XL not the old ones. But on the other hand would you want to put the added weight 90 * motor on a 22 year old transom? Besides the insurance issues and structural issues then no I can see know problem. Sorry Juan go for it!
