1973 Johnson 50hp

I have the above motor on my tin boat. It quit running last fall, so this year I changed all the fuel lines and connections, pulled the carbs and cleaned both of them. This motor is the one with the funny metal plenum with adjustment ports on the front and the linkage the connects to a rich/lean mixture knob on the front of the motor. I have spark at both cylinders, clean gas, oil, and Blue Stabil. I also pulled the shift/throttle box and lubed that up as well.

It shifts and runs great! But I do not have any high end speed. What did I do or forget to hook up? All the linkages appear to be working correctly and with full range.

Went out and got the model/serial numbers. Looked at the fuel filter and noticed when tightened down I may not be getting a good seal. The fuel filter is the round black disc with the fuel intake port. Could this be causing my problem?

After looking at the linkage more closely, it is all functioning properly. My only other thought is that i inadvertently had one of the idle mixture screws turn when I re-attached that rich/lean mixture knob linkage to them.
