    Do I need a Jackplate?

My new-to-me boat is an 1989 Astro Quickfire 19SC w/ 150 HP Merc. What I want to know is do I need a jackplate? I just want to be safe on the water, have good control and manuverablity. Not intrested in seeing how fast I can go.
    Thanks for your advice.

I don't think you need one by any means..but it's a good idea. It not only helps with top speed ( I know you don't care about that ) but driving, steering, gas mileage, etc. It's just needed to get the performance out of your boat. And your boat is a performance boat. All bass boats are.

A 6" manual jack would be an inexpensive way to get a noticealbe performance enhancement.
