    Rooster tail question

Ive only had my boat for 2 months now but I've noticed that most of the other bass boats have a higher rooster tail when on on plain than mine does. When im on plane at WOT my rooster tail is only about as high as my motor since this is my first boat I was just wondering if this is anything to worry about. My boat is a 2001 Cobra 216 coosa with a 225 Merc EFI. The center of the prop bolt is 3.25" below the bottom of the boat when both the boat and the motor are level. Just wondering if this is anything to worry about on not thanks.

    Jess,

Trashy is correct, your rooster tail should not be higher then the top of your motor.

More important how much of your boat is out of the water when your running WOT?? What is your water pressure?? Have you run your #ers through a prop calculator??

    Tail should look like this..

Here is a prop calc http://www.go-fast.com/Prop_Slip_Calculator.htm

Thanks guys that sounds good. The water pressure runs just under 10 lbs at WOT.

Want to think your water pressure guage is off a little, do you have a temp guage??

Water pressure MINIMUM for a 3 liter is 10 # Most like to stay at 12 to 15 for margine of error.. Louis

Unfortunately i don't have a temp gauge. Hopefully you are right and the gauge is just wrong. At an idle the pressure gauge is only about 2 or 3 pounds then goes up to 9.5 at WOT. When it is idling the stream is shooting fairly hard out of the motor looks like it would be a lot more that 2 or 3 pounds.

Disconnect the pressure line at the motor and us a compressor and set it low and you can tell by your compressor the amount of psi. Set your compressor to 15 or 20 lbs and blow into the end of the line and watch your water pressure guage and see if it is accurate.
