I have a chance to buy a boat with a evinrude ficht 225 di 2 stroke on the back. The boat and motor are 1999 and they only have 97 hours on it!! I had it checked out at a reputable dealer for hours. I was wondering if anyone had opinions on the motor good or bad .. thanks..

Post the model # here and one of the mods can look into it for ya.
11 years old and 97 hours - do the math, less than 10 hours a year. That is a lot of time sitting still while varnishing up and corroding. You may have lots of little problems with that one - the problems usually are little but the costs are high.

leakdown test was less than 20 percent on the motor, compression test on all cylinders were 2 pounds within each other.

My last boat was a 99 Ranger with a 99 200hp ficht on it. Had countless people tell me don't buy it cuz those motors are notorious for major issues. I figured how bad can it be....worst decision of my life to buy that boat with that motor on it! The boat was in the shop more then on the water. I know you are probably excited about getting the boat, much like i was, but my experience was terrible with that motor...Sold that boat as fast as I could for dirt cheap to someone who wanted to fix it up.
Be aware that there is NO resale value on that motor. If you buy the boat with that in mind, and that you want an ongoing hobby or learning project, then go for it.
