Anyone have a good rub and or sauce for ribs?
Anyone have a good rub and or sauce for ribs?
Here is a really great basic BBQ rub.
1/2 cup Paprika
1/4 cup kosher salt
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons mustard powder
1/4 cup chili powder
1/4 cup ground cumin
2 tablespoons ground black pepper
1/4 cup granulated garlic
2 tablespoons cayenne
Typically for ribs...now this is just me....I don't do much at all other than strip the membrane and slow smoke over hickory or mesquite. When done I slice/seperate and serve with warm barbeque sauce (store bought, you pick) I have used the rub above when doing multiple racks of ribs and my buddies liked it a lot. I also spray my ribs occasionally with a 50/50 mix of jack daniels and apple juice.
Tara, I know that several of the guys here use Tony's, but I've been using a recipe that I got from my brother, and it's a really good all-purpose rub.
3/8 C. Paprika
1 Tbsp. Chili powder
2 Tbsp. Black pepper
1 Tbsp. Onion powder
2 Tbsp. Salt
2 Tbsp. Sugar
1 1/2 Tsp. Cayenne pepper (or less if desired)
1 1/2 Tsp. Cumin
Mix well and store in a jar.
It's not too overpowering with all of the cayenne pepper, and the family likes it....
On BBQ sauce, this may sound like sacrilege, but I like the Sonny's Mustard BBQ the best of all...

I'm not a big fan of the sweet BBQ sauces, and the Sonny's is some of the best I've found... My family goes to a Sonny's every time we visit my folks in Florida, and I usually leave stuffed.. I brought back several bottles, and my folks help restock me from time to time...![]()

Tonys mixed about 1 to 1 with brown sugar...wrap in foil for 3 hours at 275, take out and glaze with favorite BBQ sauce, and put back in at 350 for 30 minutes....careful when putting on sauce...you will have to use a spatula for flipping......they will fall apart....some people like a tougher rib, but I refuse to use a knife on a rib....![]()
Thanks guys I will let you know how they turn out!!!!!
