    Cool Steering Cable Idea

I have always hated looking at the connecting rods for my dual cable steering at the motor. Keeping them lubricated, they always look bad and I aways find a way to get the grease on my cover, my sleeves, etc. Well I went to an autoparts store and found some boots similar to those on off-road shocks but made for hydraulic door supports in cars/vans. I bought a set and installed them on the exposed rods. They look really cool and protect them and keep the grease in tact and free of dirt, grit, etc. Total cost invested = $4.99. Autozone carries them in Black, Red, Blue, and Yellow. They pretty cool. I will snap a pic and post it if it isnt still snowing and cold tomorrow. Well, I might anyway.

Great idea! I have been looking for a way to cover up all that. I was thinking of using heater hose or something similar but I knew it wouldn't flex enough. I'd love to see pics!

I need to adjust one of them, it is a little crooked. I think it looks pretty cool.

Re: Cool Steering Cable Idea (jeynitro)

They do look kewl, but one thing you'll notice.......once they compress the boat will not turn as sharp in that direction due to them taking up about 2" of steering space
Had a guy bring me a boat one time complaining that it wouldn't cut very sharp in one direction......those little thingy's were the culprit

nope, no worky! Mine deteriorated within two months from the cable lube. Maybe if they were made from plastic instead of rubber. Looked good though.

Re: Cool Steering Cable Idea (Zip)

Yep mine did the same thing. They pretty much got destroyed, not sure if it is from the lube or from UV sunlight. I am searching for something that is made for outdoor use...
