My brother got a deal on this 151/2 ft boat with an 89' evinrude 88 hp motor. The trailer is in great shape so probably not original, and the motor runs good and pushes the boat to around 45 mph. For 800 dollars, I say he did good.
The transom is wet, can the top cap be taken off on these boats? If not, can the transom still be fixed? thanks
Will a boat that old, your going to have to post pictures. Take good pictures of the transom, hull, inside the bilge area, ect. Thats the only was we can advise you, as I doubt anyone here has a memory of a 79 boat.
I used to own a 78 Terry and the transom was capped with three sections of aluminum and sealed with silicone sealer. Before you start tearing it all apart I would try to treat the transom with a saturating resin.
This site has a product that might work. You will need to get the boat indoors and allow the transom to dry out first.
