    'Hazed' finish, need help...

    Greetings,

While it is not a bass boat, my Ranger 690(used for Musky fishing) is in need of some help. I purchased the rig last year in nearly mint condition. In order to preserve the rig, I decided to buy a nice cover for it, and used it while trailering on several(15 or more) long trips. Over time, the gunwhales of the boat became hazed wherever the cover was rubbing on it(most of the top of the boat as it is a tiller). I noticed it one day, as I looked at the rail of the boat and how shiny that area was compared to the rest of the rig(the rail protected the boat from the cover). So... long story short, I now realize I should have just put up with the dirt and road dust in the boat while trailering as that can be cleaned up. Lesson learned. However, I have been dealt with a hazy(from microscopic scratches it appears) finish on my boat, and I would like to, if possible, get the shine back. I tried some meguires polish with a buffer, but it did not seem to take the haze off. also had a local detailer go over it this past spring and they too, didn't get it back to what it was. I understand I might never get it looking 'new' again, but would like to get it better than it is. Might I need to get some new gel coat added to the boat somehow?

That also said, is there any way to fill/fix deeper scratches and gouges from road rocks in the side of the boat? I use rock tamers on my tow rig, but am still dealt with rock chips on occasion.

    Thanks much in advance!!

    Jason

ps I am using the Bass Boat Saver product as some on this site recomend, and really love it. Thanks!!

    Welcome aboard Jason

Your cover needs to have the white felt sew into it for trailering.. I traier all the time with no ill results but I also make real sure the trailer is kept tight, I strap it, draw the pull cord tight and then use bungy cords to help keep the straps from losening up..

I believe what otheres will recommend is a high speed buffer and 3 M's finess It finishing compound..
