Brief background on boat: It is a 1996 Ranger 364 with a 150 Johnson Faststrike. I bought this boat as a bank repo almost 8 years ago in Macon, GA. It was my first bass boat. I am still in love with it. It has been negelected to say the least. However I could tell that it had not been used very much. It had just set out in the sun alot. The motor checked out and I wrote the check. $10,000 for a 4 year old boat. I needed to restore it then, but I had fishing to do. Between fishing, making babies (3 of 'em), and building a house 4 years ago, I never got around to it. Now I finally have the time. I did keep her in the garage though. One more note before I get to the restore. Ranger ran the vin# on this boat, and told me that it was a prize boat in a BP top 150 in Virginia in 1995.
Anyway she's mine now and I can't wait to get her looking like new again.
Alright. First night went pretty good. Removal of carpet and hardware came off really easy on all lids except for one. My rod locker lid is the only one of my lids that actually has the liner put in after the carpet was installed. All of the other lids were molded in one piece and the carpet removal was simple. It was a real pain in the tail to get the rivets out beacuse they had a washer on them and they were sandwiched between the two liners. I had to hold the rivet with some needle nose pilers and then drill. The holes are noticably bigger now. I guess I'll have to use bigger rivets with washers as well. None of my other lids had washers on the backside of the rivet. I have read where some of you guys used bolts and nylock nuts to put the hinges back on the lids. If you do this on the lids with the liners, did you drill holes through the inside liner? Did you put filler piece in between the liner and the shell so that it would not crush when the two were pulled together? Do you reccommend using rivets or bolts?
I will post some pics soon.
Thanks, for any help. Jason
