    Replacement Carpet weight

Greetings from Iraq. I am new to the BBC Boards as a member but have been reading the posts for a couple years. I need some clarification about carpet weight. I have an 04 TR21 that I will recarpet upon my return from here in Iraq next month. After researching online I ordered a 20oz Charcoal kit from the guys at Bassboatcarpets.com. Got some pics of the carpet from my wife and it looks great. I started seeing posts about 24oz carpet and wondered did I get the wrong weight so I emailed Triton and was told that they use 24oz. Not sure if they were using it in 04 but thats what I was told. Can someone shed some light on the carpet weight issue and will I be satisfied with the 20oz? Is there that much of a difference? Has anyone done their boat with 20oz and how did it compare to the factory carpet on a newer boat? Do I need to reconsider and get the 24oz from Bass Cat? My appologies for all the questions. Thanks in advance

    Re: Replacement Carpet weight (EODHEMI)

welcome to the boards, and thanks for your service. i'm sure you'll get a lot of different opinions on here, and there are a lot of guys that no better than i do. i started looking for carpet a couple of months ago, and have received samples of different colors and weights. i really don't see a big difference in the 2 weights. i have a 99 tracker, and the carpet has held up extremely well, and i'm sure that wasn't a high dollar carpet. with almost 10 yrs on the boat, it's just now starting to flatten out around the bow. how in the heck did you kill carpet in 4 yrs? so in just my opinion, you will be fine with the 20oz. there has been some discussion too about the heavier carpet being more difficult to work with for hatches and lids. hope that helps!!

The overall factory carpet is still in decent shape. I do have a couple areas where the carpet is coming up due to the previous owner. Around the remote oil filler, oil had been spilled and overflowed on the carpet. Over time the glue has come loose. Also the O-ring seal on the steering helm where you add fluid went bad and some of the steering fluid ended up on the floor. Needless to say the carpet no longer sticks in that area either. The boat came factory with the light grey carpet which shows dirt bad so I wanted to go with something darker for the replacement.

Call Brad Sr. at the Triton Factory (he's the customer service manager), and ask for the FACTORY precut carpet pieces! They make life much easier since they are pre-cut and will match your factory carpet without any problem!
