    Fiberglass repair

Need to repair the edge of a strake on the bottom of my boat. Spot is 2" long and looks like the edge broke off (1/4" thick). I can see a layer of glass but it looks like the actual strake is just resin/gelcoat. Is this the proper repair sequence? Sand the spot down to get a clean surface to bond to. Build up missing material with a marine grade filler. Sand smooth to match strake provile. Touch up gellcoat with white gellcoat repair kit.

Dont care how it looks, just dont want to do it twice!

Get some MarineTex epoxy in white. It works like a putty and sands like wood. It is water tight so you don't have to gel coat it and it will not come off. Just sand the area lightly, mix the product, apply and shape while wet. If needed, but certainly not necessary, you can sand it to perfect the shape.
