99 225 Ficht Gear case oil suggestions

Just want to know what I should be using. Motor was maintained by a certified technician for previous owner but I usually do my own services.

    Thanks before hand.

The best gear oils are the E-TEC HPF-XR or the super heavy duty HPF-Pro

With this being a Evinrude fourm most of the people will recommend an Evinrude product...and I respect thier opinion because they do have good products.

With that being said I have Run Amsoil synethic lower unit oil since 2001 with no issues. Under warrant I use what the MFG reccomends...out of warranty I use Amsoil for all my oil, grease, lube and fluid.

Yes, I read that article. Most magazine articles are geared towards the biggest advertising sponsor in test results. Seen it too many times for it to not be so.

One nice thing is the Evinrude HPF-XR is not too expensive and if changed seasonally or before every 100hrs (as suggested) it should keep the gears safe and sound.

I know from my aviation experience that NO petroleum based oil can compete with the synthetic oils where high heat is involved. High heat is not the case with a lower unit.

No manufacturer should deny your warranty without first proving the synthetic or any other product was inferior. The Magnuson Moss act grants you the right to litigation in warranty disputes. Doesn't mean you will win but enough cases have been won in this country to support good aftermarket products.

Thanks for the good responses and info everyone.
