    Roanoke Rapids Lake???

Can anyone fill me in on RRL fishing conditions, lake depths, size of and would it be nice to live on the water there. Have been looking at waterfront homes on both Lake Gaston & RR Lake, there seems to be a big differance in the pricings on each, any comments please....thanks again

    Re: Roanoke Rapids Lake??? (Poppydog)

I grew up in R.R. and still fish there. For me, I like to fish really early or really late. The water is usually pretty clear. There are TONS of different types of structure, sharp drops, rocks, stumps etc. So, be careful, don't assume you are in 30 ft. of water just because you are out in the middle. There is no topo map of that lake so I strongly suggest a good depthfinder (if you don't already have one.)There are lots of sunken trees that I fishy religiously with texas rigged 10" mocassin wormsand crawdads. There is also a very distinct chanel that winds alot. I have good luck in the hydrilla along the channel also.
I have the best LUCK with the following:

topwater: devils horse(black and green), frogs and plastic mouse(white)

other: yellow, green, light orange spinner baits(if windy) around docks around structure. I fishy grass lines and sloping points with trick worms(usually white or lemon shad andfish them REAL slow and let them fall about 6 ft. deep ) and dark colored crankbaits. Texas rigged or drop shot rigged worms in deep structure.
If I know what boat landing you are going to, I will tell you how to get to a few hot spots that I have found. There are some nice fish there.

thanks so much for the information. Would you buy or build a vacation home on the lake? Did the water levels change much when you were there? Any suggestions on a good ramp to use? thanks again JB

I wasn't initially part of this post, but I would be interested in those hot spots. I have a tournament coming up the second weekend of August and I've never been to Roanoke Rapids Lake before. I am told that we are putting in at the Thelma ramp.

    Thanks in advance
