    Disconnect VRO2 on 1998 Evinrude 200

Would anyone recommend disconnecting and bypassing the VRO on my 1998 Evinrude 200? Several knowledgeable folks have told me to do this. How do you do this? I know a "smoking motor is a happy motor", but mine always smokes terrible at idle. I believe the VRO is supposed to reduce the oil mix to approx. 75 - 100:1 at idle. Oil also finds it's way into the air box over the carbs.
    Thanks
    Lew

I would not recommend it! Read this and decide for yourself. http://continuouswave.com/whal....html

I would leave it alone if it hasn't given you any trouble. If you disconnect it, it will probably smoke worse at idle as it will be burning 50:1 at all speeds. One of the guru's should be along shortly but thats my .02.

Actually I would think a 1998 model would have the OMS system instead of the previous VRO2 which shouldeven be a little more reliable.

In high temperature environments and with the Oil tank chock full there may be a venting issue and the pressure will cause the oil to be "pushed" out the tank and past the diaphragm in the oiler. You can have the performance of the VRO/OMS by a trained OMC/BRP technician.

I disconnected mine (1998 Evinrude Intruder 150hp) due to over oiling. I checked for fuel restriction, air in fuel, and the venting problem but all checked out fine.

I did not install another due to several posts where the new VRO's were failing but after mixing oil for a season I am re-considering.
