    Micro guides???

Ive been looking at several new rods with micro guides on them. My question is does the line drag more through the guides because they are smaller thus shorting your cast or is there not any difference compared to tradtional guides?

    Thanks for your help

it actually straightens the path the line takes by cutting down any side-to-side energy allowing you to cast further in most cases. The effects much more apparent when using spinning gear and/or braid as well.

I've gotten two Duckets since the first of the year. They outcast any of my other rods easily as well as the rods they replaced.

As a skeptic when I first heard of the concept...after buying 5 rods with them...wow...extra 15 feet a cast for the same effort...its amazing...

Nearly all things that are standard on a rod today came from the minds of custom builders...... This is no different

On this one - quite a few of the production companies worked closely with custom builders who had a leg up on what was going on with the guides.

Most of the time they just knock off custom builders. This one didn't happen quite like that. Interesting evolution.

Thanks for all the replys. It was just kinda hard for me to see that a small guide touching the line more would cause less friction and an increased casting distance, but not the first time I would have been wrong

    Re: Micro guides??? (BasserJim)

The amount of friction on a cast is negligible - a lot of the line is actually up off the guide rings. More friction occurs on the retrieve but the surface area of the line hasn't changed and the guide rings aren't small enough to add any noticable more friction due to increased surface contact.

a lot of the line is actually up off the guide rings.

So there is enough room left in the microguide for the line to stay off the rings? Say 14 to 20 lb test? Thats what I was not sure about if the line would have enough room. I know they do on regular guides but was not sure if there would be enough room.

This is an autocad (not done by me ) drawing of 12 lb line inside a #3 batson micro if this helps. There's plenty of room inside micro guides!
