    Can I run high octane

So far I have been able to avoid the ethanol by using 91 octane available at a marina. I have heard that the Yamaha HPDI's build up carbon with high octane if you idle much. Living in Florida with lots of manatee slow zones idling is unavoidable. Is the 91 octane going to create any carbon build up issues with the Etec

If you wish but the motor was built and mapped for 87 octane. High test has a lower burn point than regular. 89 would work just fine. Waste of $$ at 91 unless you are running a race motor then you need $$$ fuel.

What about non-ethanol fuel? My days are numbered in WI and will be shutting down in the next month. Is non-ethanol fuel a better bet for long-term storage, or will 2+4 and 10% ethanol fuel store fine? Thank you.

If you can get non-ethanol fuel, by all means get it.

I would get the Marine Stabil and put it in and run it to get it in the system before shutting down for the winter. It is made to deal with the ethanol.

Re: Can I run high octane (Danrude)

In ethanol, most of the octane is derived from the alcohol & will diminish over the winter.
Higher octane would be better for storage......non-ethanol "premium" would be fine. A non-alcohol based additive/stabilizer would be better than 2+4 (alcohol-based).Startron or Sta-Bil Marine ( blue ) are not alcohol based.

If you have to use ethanol, get a test kit to verify % of alcohol , especially if you decide to use 2+4 . As the can states; YOU CANNOT EXCEED DOSAGE & dosage would have to reflect % of ethanol content. So the caveat to using 2+4 ;is knowing the quanity of alcohol in your fuel.

TEST KITS ARE UNDER $ 10.00 & should be used !!!

Re: Can I run high octane (Steve Wright)

    Steve,

I'm looking at a bottle of 2+4 and it says nothing about exceeding dosage.....

Thanks for the info on Marine Stabil. We have 91 ethanol free up here. Planning on using it from now on.
