Evinrude Engine Tuner DeCarb First Time

Well for me it was the first time , I de-carboned myself. I got the trusty can and while I did buy the adapter to screw on the schradder valve I went with the spray it in the carb method. I warmed it up on the muffs and had it at 1200+/- but once I sprayed the can through the schradder valve the motor died withing 10 seconds. I had maybe used 5% of the can and when I went to restart the motor it just wouldnt. My motor usually is so easy to start even the first time in the spring it fires and stays running within 5 seconds of turning the key. After a few minutes of trying and not even a hint of it firing I pulled the plugs, dryed them and she farted a few times then came to life. When they say dont use it on tar or cement they are right. With only a quick shot form the can and maybe 10 minutes of soaking my front steps and the prop looked like black pudding. I was able to keep it running and used about 70% of the can then I pulled all the plugs and gave each hole a good shot. With the plugs back in and the kill switch pulled I turned it over for just a second to coat everything in the cylinders.

Well tommorow morning I'll run the #@$%&* out of it. I have some good numbers from a compression check 2 years ago as well as one this spring 105-110 with the 2 lower cylinders the 105-106 range. All test are from the same compression gauge. I have use Pensoil Semi Synthetic sicen buying the boat in 2005 the past owner said thats all he used.

    FYI 1996 Intruder 150HP.

Got on the water at 10 Am even with all the Engine Tuner in there she fired right up, let it warm up as we were in the low 30's this morning and had a great ride down the lake. The cool weather along with a clean engine let me wind her up to 5800 and 64.7 GPS. During the hole shot it also felt like it had a few more ponies.

I have been sampling local gas stations to see who has the lowest level of Ethanol gas. I have found one that averages around 2% on my Ethanol tester thats the fuel I have in it and will tuck her away for the winter with. A good shot of Stabile Marine as well.

I swear it sounded quiter/ more like and ETECH

I came home and did a compression test on every hole and they all appeared to be within a few lbs and the numers tighten up over the last few test I've done yearly.

Before you tuck her in for her nap shoot her full of fogging oil, pull the prop and check for fishing line. Drain the LU fluid etc. Lube everything and store it in the down position.

Will do, I hope to get out a few more times but that is my usual procedure. I also take the batteries into the garage 45 is got to be better than 10 below. I also put a few gallons of RV antifreeze inthe livelwell and lets not forget the dam speedo hose. I put in a connector about 12" from the gauge to make it easier to disonnect and hit it with the compressor line with a few lbs of air. After doing a H20 gauge every other year Mother Nature won.

Actually the batteries are best off when fully recharged and stored in the freezer.
