    Extended warranty claims - issues?

    I have a225HO E-Tec model# E225DHLSDF ser# 515357.

Has anyone had problems with claims being accepted through the extended warranty company? Some motor have had the main power head bolts break, the six bolts that hold the power head to the mid-section, mine had one fail. The dealer said that they are not covered under the extended warranty because they are "connection bolts"? I would argue these are more than just a "connection bolt", they are critical to the operation of the motor, it would be like calling the connecting rod bolts a "connection bolt". If all six of these bolt fail you can imagine the damage that would occur. So my dealer has billed me $26 for each bolt and 4.5 hrs labour for replacing them and the extended warranty they said will not cover the repair as these are considered "connection bolts". I am happy the dealer noticed and replaced these bolts, I just think this is a warranty job. Is this rite? or am I all wrong here? Have people had similar issues? should I talk to BRP?

    Thanks

I would think anything that wasn't normal wear and tear stuff should be covered,if not, are you just suppose to run it till they all break and it does some major damage that would be covered ?

Exactly my thoughts too, you would think they would be happy to cover thus preventative maintenance as the a total failure would be significantly more expensive for them to cover. Then perhaps if a total failure occurred and it was traced to the bolts failing maybe they would not cover the repairs anyways, now that is a scary thought! Make one wonder how good the extended waranty realy is.

I had the same thing happen to my E-tech,except I lost 9 bolts, the exhaust section and the next section down. The extended warranty people said it was not covered,I was told only internal breakage in the motor and lower end and some electronics were covered. My E-tech warranty had ran out a couple of months before hand and they would not help me at all. It is obvious this problem had been going on for some time. I am very disapointed with evinrude not stepping up and addressing the problem, they know about it because thier tech told my tech exactly where to look for the problem. I'm not disapointed with the motor, I think it is great, but, I am VERY upset with Evinrude and I will find it very hard to recomend them to any one in the north-east.

I have know other people have problems too, so these are not isolated issues, there should be a "recall" of sorts to replace these bolts. BRP should step up and have them checked and replaced, I am sure many people are unaware they have a serious issue that can be easily fixed if they were told. The way it is right now if the bolts fail, people will be stuck with a heavy repair bill, this is not right. I like my E-Tec and would buy another (may be a 250 HO though) but this issue is BRP responsibility they need to step-up and own this issue .
