my evinrude 1985 120 hp will run fine for a few days or a few hours then when you are running wide open it will start to loose spark it feels like and just sputter and go not go but the motor will not shut off .if you back the throttle down to an idle and then open it back up sometimes it will run fine for an extended period of time but it seems to be intermittant and does not do this all the time any tests or advice wuold be welcome thanks
I'd check the head temps first.Then look at a bad thermostat.
how should i check the head temp can i use a digital temp gun to do so

will my shop manual tell me the the temp range it should be running at ?
If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.
