Fluoro...some hate it, some love it

This is not a "which fluorocarbon" but actually a question on why so many guy's can't use the stuff or just have a lot of trouble with it. I don't do tournaments, just like to fish, I mainly use Daiwa Samurai braid but I also use Seaguar Invizx which has worked out pretty well for me. I've had a few "professional over runs" which were my fault and noticed that the line can get twisted easily if you're not careful when trying to clear it.
I was looking on the Bass Pro web site and was reading the reviews on BPS XPS flouro, Trilene 100% Pro grade and the Invizx. Most of the reviews were positive with a few issues...then some reviews were VERY negative. These guys hated it, didn't matter which brand, baitcaster or spinning reel. So, are these guys using it in the wrong application....wrong weight line for the lure? Not letting it out behind the boat for a few minutes before using it? Not using any kind of line conditioner? Or are some people just not patient enough to figure out HOW to use it?

Mainly it the fact that it's not mono and handles differently. You have to use a little more care with Flourocarbon than mono, like casting, it's stiffer and you need to make sure it doesn't have any loose coils when you start the retrieve. It doesn't handle getting kinked very well, it will break at any spot that has been kinked severely. You have to be more careful that you tie a good knot and you lube it sufficiently.

Yep it is a different animal alright, before the braid and fluoro I always used Berkley Big Game. I've never had a problem with it and I know a lot of guys use it. I do soak it good with KVD conditioner though, seems to really help. I'll use up this spool of Invizx and keep using the Big Game, a lot less hassle and you just can't beat the price. I guess it's just a "to each his own" kinda deal. Thanks for the replys......Dave

It's a completely different animal. Some people want to treat it like nylon mono, and a lot of people confuse the copoly lines such as YoZuri Hybrid and P-Line Floroclear for the real fluoro. Every line has a trade-off, and most do not understand that. I Love the sensitivity of fluoro but I don't like how temperamental it is about knots. BUT! I have made myself learn new knots that work on fluoro in order to take advantage of it's positive characteristics. Handling-wise, as long as it gets a squirt of KVD L&L the stuff handles pretty good.
I know for sure that fluoro has put fish in the boat that I would have never felt bite had I been using nylon mono, so...... those that decide not to use it just means they are missing out on fish that I will have a better chance to catch!

All of the above......... but most of I all beleive folks who try it for the first time start out with the cheapest stuff they can find and believe me every brand is different. To get a manageable flouro you have to spend a little more......Invix-z is good but try some of the premium Japanese brands if you really want to see a major difference in quality like Sunline or Toray

I use Vicious fluoro anytime I use fluorocarbon and I love it, I'm sorry I can't justify paying $19.99 for the other brand and paying @12.99 and getting almost twice as much line. Thats just me and as for Mono, Berkley Big Game. I have to admit that I tried Vicious on a spinning reel and it sucked so I've never tried Fluoro again on my spinning reels.
