No, they are not clear or translucent... not like florocarbon. Are they less visible than the greens and yellows? Yes.

New record!! Caught several bass on December 31st. In Michigan! From my boat!
I can't say with certainty, but I thought I read somewhere on the boards that a few people used the Fireline Crystal (if you would classify fireline as a braid?), and they commented how it looked like dental floss in the water.
-
I was actually thinking of getting some and trying it, as I fish very clear water; but those comments scared me off.![]()
i looked at some fireline at wal-mart, the stuff is white, i think fish would see it?

Yah, I thought the same thing. I should've mentioned previously I've had some good results with the smoke colored. Even in the clear water I typically fish.![]()

Yes sir you are correct, I've heard some people actually fish with anchor chain.![]()
-
But I've never fished the river. I'm a lake guy. There's a private lake about an hour and a half from St.Louis that is about 150 acres I typically fish (I should correct my profile, I actually live in St.Peters; I just figured no one would no where it was. And 'The Lou' is a good point of reference). It's super clean, and you can see down between 6-8 feet, and has a spot or two that are 50+ feet deep. It gets a goodly amount of fishing pressure and recreational boaters, so it's good practice for tourney's at The Rock.
-
The wife usually comes with me fishing (she lounges and reads), and doesn't want anywhere near the river.![]()
-
Oh yah, I also get down to Table Rock a few times a year for tourneys. And it's also very clear.![]()

Hey, Arnold's just a bit south of here. Not far at all.![]()
-
I'll certainly keep your buddy in mind. It's always good to have someone available for buddy tourneys. It's just a tough sell to my wife to fish another tourney. But that doesn't sound fruity at all!![]()

Thanks again!
I have just begun using the fireline crystal in 14# so far I have been very pleased. it is white not clear and it is very tough, we did some redneck testing on this line with a knife and a pair of scissors. we basically continued to frey the line and could not break it until there was very little line left. the 14# cast very well, anything above 14 and it starts to get very stiff. I will say that I like the fireline crystal much better than spider wire. but thats just mho. I will try to post something in the reviews area in a month or so after further testing.

It's not clear or translucent like the marketing folks want you to believe. I've used it and the smoke / greenish stuff and I think I prefer the smoke or darkish green stuff.
I've heard of people coloring the last 10ft or so with a marker. I dont really care or think it matters. I only use it on my C-rig so I have a leader anyway.
But, man braid is so much more sensitive than mono or even floro that I'm sticking with it, no matter what color it is
