How do you fish these type poppers???

I've got a couple of these, (see below pic) and was wondering what technique's you guys use for these? I've not caught anything with it, and dont have any confidence with it.. Wondering if Im doing something wrong?? I just cast it out and let it sit for a bit, then pop it, let it sit, pop it, sit, etc., etc.. Is that all there is too it? Thanks for any info!

I only have one of them. I use it just like my POP-R's though.......sometimes I dont let mine sit I just start popping agressivly to trigger bite.....I also use a spinning rod for them too.....dont know if that makes a differnce or not. I have some Sugio baits that are pretty close to that too.

Yes and yes. Learn what works best for each lake. I have one lake I fish, that I pop it real slow, and one that I pop it fast.

The clearer the water, the faster you work your baits, especially topwaters.

The Sugoi is one of my favorites, but the old reliable Chug Bug accountd for several big fish every year as well.

I consider that style of popper to be very target specific, not for covering a lot of water like a Zara Spook or prop bait. It needs to be dropped into a fishy hole then left there up to 5-10 seconds, giving it the slighest pops to spit a little water. Once it leaves a good target reel it in and try another spot. If a bass is near it will either ignore it or take it within seconds of landing, so I wouldn't waste time fishing it all the way back to the boat.

    with pop-rs like that I use a rhythm. I usually start with pop-pop, pause, pop-pop-pop pause, pop-pop.
Then if no takers I'll speed it up and pop-pop, pause, pop-pop pause and very the pops and pauses until I get bit.
If you get a chance, look at some Jimmy Houston shows, he's a real master with them....

I have found best success with a popping bait is when you let it set for a few seconds between pops. If it sits low in the rear and has a feathered treble I will make it twitch ever so slightly while the lure is sitting still.

I have the best success with a popper in heavy cover. I don't think bass see this all to much as most guys don't like to put a 10$ bait into cover, also have done decent flipping poppers back into gaps in shoreline cover/laydowns. Caught some pretty good ones doing that. Just don't try to pitch 'em
