    E-tec overheating

2006 E-tec 225 on z-20 Ranger. It is overheating at idle. Have had in shop 4 times and it is always the same. They say it does fine in the tank at idle. They have swapped the impeller twice and I believe BRP told them to put in a spring for the pop-off with a lower compression. I ran it today after getting it out of the shop AGAIN and same thing. It overheats at idle....peeing ok but overheats. Did not seem to have this problem until they swapped water pumps this winter. Also seems to be a little hot during running. Getting 15-16 lbs of pressure WOT. What is correct temp. It holds steady at 130 at WOT when before the temp would drop all the way. The temp will go above 180-200 when idling and I have to take it out of gear at raise the RPM's to get it to cool down. Any ideas? anyone else experience this? I am going to contact BRP tomorrow. Thanks

    Re: E-tec overheating (froghero)

Your motor needs 3-5# of water pressure at idle. If it's at 3#, that is the absolute minimum and everything should be checked out. Even the WOT pressure is on the low side, so my guess is the water pump, even though they changed just the impeller, they should replace the whole #5001595 pump kit

Here is a link to a water pressure chart:

If a thermostat is stuck open or even opens at a lower temp than 143°, then the water flows out that open t'stat and may not fill up the opposite cylinder head completely, thus causing it to overheat.

The pressure relief valve should have the rubber grommet glued into place, originally it was just pressed in.

    Seahorse,
Went to your link regarding the water pressure. Does that almost mean that the max RPM for the 225 Etec HO should not exceed 5500? I'm at 5200 now.
    Thanks,
    Ernie

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I need to find a new mechanic. There aren't many e-tec mechanics in north alabama. If anyone knows a good one please let me know.
