    throttle arm

    here a few pic I took of my throttle arm
    nuetral


    full throttle


    space left over at full throttle if i move it myself. is this normal? would this account for my lack of top speed and low rpms ( 45mph and 4500 rpms)

    The Idle setting is perfect. You need to remove the airbox and watch the butterflies when you are at WOT they need to be perpindicular to the carb bodies. Check the throttle plate linkage where it hits the timing arm and make sure the clear plastic roller is over the solid black plastic roller. If they aren't opening fully that's the problem.

    I don't understand your post, Yes to answer answer your question, the movement beyond is normal.
    What does the engine do that is wrong when its running?

    The linkage is ok but your not returning to the EET idle stop on the flywheel cover in the picture you posted. Yes if you push it it will travel until it hits a stop that has nothing to do with the running of the engine
