You used to see this on old tv shows all the time but at a local river a fly fisherman actually got stuck in it. Sank up to his waist and was stuck for 2 hours before sar could rescue him. Helene did a lot of changes to the river.

Been up to my waist several times duck hunting in gumbo mud. Hopefully you have grass or boat to hold on help pull yourself out. You’d basically have to semi lay down and swim/slide your way out. At my current age and fitness level, I’d have to call 911.
This is a mountain river not a swamp. Probably silt from Helene

Many years ago I walked out on a sandbar where Yellow Water creek runs into the Coosa and proceeded to sink up past my knees. I was stuck. Thankfully I had a buddy with me and he helped pull me out. Yesterday I was fishing off that same sandbar, but it has built up and become solid footing over the years.
There’s a little trout stream around here that’s known for the soft silt. In some spots you only sink a foot. In others you go up to your waist and need another person to help you out. Doesn’t swallow you whole but sure makes you think you would be

Seriously. But now my 7 year old has read the entire “I survived…” series in his school library. He reads on the 5th grade level, but doesn’t have enough perspective to realize tornadoes are not all EF5’s, that tsunamis don’t happen at the beach every day, or that grizzly bears don’t live in Florida. He’s convinced every natural disaster or predator is about to pop off. Like, daily.
I wish all I had to do was teach him about quicksand, lol
