    Powerpack question (J25REIE)

I have a 1991 25 hp johnson with a suspected powerpack issue (yes... it has a UFI).

I would like to know if I can use a 2-cyl 40 HP powerpack (same year, 1991)?

    Thanks

    Randy

Thanks ChampioNman.. I pulled the flywheel last night. Part number of suspected powerpack is 584331. I want to replace with a 584329.

    ...what is this....

That is a ground termination, presumably on the block.

Uh oh, put those hands straight out in front of you, BM, for a slap with a wooden spoon.

The item is the temp switch which triggers the pack to slow the motor down in case of an overheat.

    Re: Powerpack question (ChampioNman)

    That's excellent info

I had this powerhead rebuilt and I don't see the temperature switch. I don't recall having a temp switch. Service manual is too vague where it goes and parts diagram on http://epc.brp.com doesn't help either.

    Where is the temperature switch?

PS: I thought the symbol was a ground too, but the pin in the center had me guessing. You guys rock.

Better get tested for color blindness too.

That looks like the pocket most of us would use for the temp sensor but BM would use that hole for a ground.

    Re: Powerpack question (ELGIN)

    Thanks for the info.

    Last Q:

This engine is a fresh rebuild. No boring, just rings and gaskets. However, the motor does not "easily" rotate past TDC by hand on each stroke (even with the plugs out). I can not use the pull rope to pull the engine past this point. If I put a wrench on the flywheel nut I can crank it past this point but it seems tight. also, if I back the crank by hand half a rotation and pull the cord momentum carries the crank/pistons past this spot. but if after pulling the crank there is a piston nearing TDC, I can't pull the pull cord again.

Is that normal for a fresh rebuild or should I take it back to my rebuilder?

Take it back the motor should spin freely with plugs out.
