    05 Etec alarm at idle

Just wondering what to do since my HOT alarm went off as I was idiling thru a very long 5mph zone. The temp seems to hold around 140 but had gone up to 180 then backed down. When I was running it stays very cool and water pressure is good. This happened on Fri., I went back out yesterday and idled less with no problems. Any ideas?

Re: 05 Etec alarm at idle (20outrage)

Your 4 year old motor probably needs a new water pump kit and new thermostats because it overheated at idle. What is the water pressure at idle?

Make sure the software is up to date and that any applicable service bulletins have been complied with. See your dealer.

Of course, reading RULE #1 on the main forum page would be a big help.

water pressure at idle is about 5# does that sound right? what should the engine temp be? it went as high as 185, then back down to 145 on average during idle.

How about responding to RULE #1 first

see your dealer. Now that we know you have an early E-TEC V6, there are 2 service bulletins about false overheat signals for a certain number of motors of '05 and '06 vintage.

If they haven't been done, new water pump (complete factory kit), thermostats, and blow off valve inspection.
