A friend of mine started something about 15 years ago, and it caught on very well.
We would get together (4 of us at that time) and bring all the tackle we had not used in a while. Not junk - just stuff we bought, anticipating to use it, and just never did. We laid it all out on the floor and did a tackle trade. No cash exchanged hands - just lures, rods, reels, boating stuff, etc....
Over the years, it grew, with more people and more tackle. Then it just kind of died off.
I resurected this in VA last year, and it worked out really well. A few BBC members suggested that we meet at a local ramp, hold a cookie jar tournament - largest single fish, and then afterwards, we did the tackle swap.
We started late - around mid-morning... and we finished somewhere around 2pm if memory serves me correct.
Afterwards, we laid out all our unused tackle on the front decks of our boats and traded tackle with each other in the parking lot. Some good deals were made between just about everyone there - but there was some cash exchanged at this event. No big deal... just not what I had in mind... but it worked anyway.
So, long story cut short here:
Anyone interested in getting together a decent sized group at a ramp and holding a tackle trade and (or not) cookie-jar tournament? I'm being a little selfish in suggesting that we hold it at Choke Canyon because that is what is close to me... but I am the one asking after all.![]()
All the best,
Glenn
