    Need some advice

I will try and make a long story short. I am looking at a boat that has a 2006 envinrude etec 225 ho. The motor has already had lower unit problems that have suppose to have been fixed. A new power head last year. I asked that the boat be taken to the shop and put on the computer to make sure everything is ok. Motor has 155 hours on it, everything looked good until they did a compression test and found one side was low and it was going to need another power head. I am waiting on the mechanic to call me but from what I was told they talked to evinrude and they said they will replace the power head with a new one but we will be responsible for the labor. The owner of the boat has an extended warranty on the motor. The company who that insurance is through will pay for everything but the power head they will pay for is a remanufactured one. First should I back away from this deal and second how are the reman. power heads. I saw a post earlier where a gentleman with an 06 was on his 3rd powerhead and it ended up being a fuel problem. That is why I want to talk to the mechanic to see what is causing the powerheads to go bad.

    Please help.

I am not an ETEC expert by any means, but being a BBC junky, I would have the dealer look at the setup or boat itself (primarily the fuel pickup system) further than the motor as being the problem of these failures. Since BRP will replace the powerhead with a new one, have the insurance company pay for the labor. See if you can get the model and serial number for the experts here.

Talked to the mechanic omc is not replacing the power head but they are going to replace the injector and I forget what else but I think it is whatever part for that cylinder. The cylinder has not failed yet luckily they did the compression test and found something before it did fail. He is thinking that the injector is bad or has some trash in it but this is speculation until they get into the motor.

Hummm big change in game plans huh? Motor went from blown to a bad injector. Either way it should be covered. If you could post model and serial number it will get run.

As the second owner of an out of warranty engine they are giving you a power head and injector, sounds fair to me.

When your dealer gets it back together he should look at the boats fuel system for restrictions and air leaks, he should also look at the oil tank and hose to be sure there are no issues there, I am sure the factory would ask him to do this.

This engine has the new Lightning 2 gear case that should take care of any gear case issues he had.

You should have the dealer change the owners info to your name.

Appreciate the help. I will officially purchase the boat next week so all the info. will transfer then, luckily I had the boat taken to a mechanic to find the problem before I purchased it. Omc is supplying the parts we are paying for the labor, yes very nice of them. Glad to hear about the lower unit. I talked to the mechanic yesterday about checking everything else to make sure there is no underlying problems.
