Looking at a used boat with a 1988 115 hp Johnson motor. I dont have the serial number or model number. What are your opinions of this motor, in general. Should I keep looking or will this be a servicable motor with proper maintenance, etc.?

Those old 4 bangers were good motors. As with any used motors, check compression and a leakdown would be advisable. If the motor hasn't been run in a while the carbs may need to be cleaned. Also check lower unit oil for water intrusion,line around prop etc. Good luck! I had a78 85 hp that was running great when I sold it.
May want to check the model number again, didn't think they made a 115hp in 1988 but either way, I have a 1988 Johnson 110 V4. No issues at all, ever. VRO is still hooked up, very reliable motor. As already said, just check the basic, water in gear oil, compression, etc..

My 120 johnson is an 1988 model. Its been very good to me.
