    1990 Evinrude 200 Runs terrible

    I have a 1990 Evinrude 200 Model # VE200SLESE Serial# G02530555

I got this boat about 5 years Ago and it has never run Great have had carb problems since day 1. I finally have decided to rebuild all 6 of them and get it over with. I think mistake No#1 I took all 6 carbs off at once, although as I took them apart I put all the parts in 6 separate containers keeping each carb together. I just received 6 new Kits P/N 439079 was told by 2 dealers thats the one it takes. The High speed Orifices are 62D except for 1 its 63D the other 2 orifices on these carbs are #32 & #34 with no consistancy of where the were put a couple 32s in the Idle spot and the rest in the intermediate and in fact 1 of them I really couldn't tell what size it was someone had actually Scratched off because they had obviously used a screw driver to small for the job. Compression in this engine is pretty low all cycl's within 1 of 75lbs engine was checked cold. So a minimum of a ring job is in order I believe but I wanna get these carbs right and do the overhaul in a few months.
Are the Orifices the right ones ? Should they all be the same config on all carbs ? Are they ready to go back together or do I need more parts? Also I live at an ELEV of about 1000ft and this boat came from a dealer in Salt Lake City and I was told it spent most of it's time on Lake Powell which I believe is over 3700 feet so the prev owner could have had it re-jetted for that reason. With the info you have here what would you suggest i do short of buying a new motor. I am a poor person so economy is important but I do want it right. Thanks in advance for any help you all can lend me with this project.

I don\'t need to be the fastest guy on the lake, Just have the heaviest bag at the scale.
As long as it will haul me and my Limit to the scales it\'s a great boat.

One of the experts should chime in pretty quickly for you. On my 89 200XP, I noticed the orifices were all different sizes. I have only had this engine for a few months, so many things could have been changed before I got it. And there didn't seem to be much consistency in where they were placed. I hope you get it running well. My compression is about 90 on all 6.

    Re: 1990 Evinrude 200 Carbs Problems (ta3834bbl)

Well I got them all done rebuilt all 6 carbs and it does run a bunch better I changed those jets to #34 & #39 with #62D for the high speed. and all 6 carbs are the same Config now.. But the problem still remains Low compression lets face it the motor is almost 19 yrs old with lots of hours so gettin on plane is a real chore with that 26p prop once it's up it will run about 57 mph at like 5100 rpm so I'm thinkin until I can afford the overhaul I'll go to a lower pitch prop and just take it easy so I can keep fishin till then.
Can anyone tell me what kind of things will happen if my timing is off just a little.

You need to reprop so that you are turning closer to 5,500-5,800. This will give you a better hole shot and free up the engine some. I would do a Decarb with Seafoam and you may be pleasantly surprised and get some of your compression back!

There is a fine line between \"FISHING\" and just standing in the boat going through the motions!!!

Re: 1990 Evinrude 200 Carbs Problems (OrygunBasser)

I was wondering I have already decarbed with a can of the stuff OMC sells but have heard a lot about the Seafoam Deep Creep Do ya think doing it again with the deep creep will still help man I'll try anything if it will make that overhaul needed more Later than Sooner. And I have found a 13.5 X 25 Shooter that I think may help do the trick only 1" smaller in pitch but also 1" smaller in DIA hoping that will give me about 400 RPM.
My wife mentioned maybe if you take about 100lbs of you gear out it will help LOL
    funny but she's right.

Yep try a 23" Renegade instead of the Shooter. Just add the seafoam for another few tanks and then use the BRP engine tuner and let it sit overnight. Just don't do it on the concrete or the wife will have you sleeping in the boat.

Re: 1990 Evinrude 200 Carbs Problems (Bassmeister)

Man what a boat Anchor, It puts me on plane faster than a ski boat and I picked up 10mph in top end I was way over propped. The shooter worked out great . Looks like I'm gonna be able to put off that overhaul for a good while if it keeps running this good. Im sure rebuilding and rejetting all 6 carbs didnt hurt anything either. And used Seafoam and did a major Shock picked up 9lbs of compression across the board So thanks all for all the info you all gave me probably saved me a couple grand. Thanks again..
