90 fuel pump problems

my friends got a 90 that isn t pumping fuel .
the bulb gets soft but doesnt collapse, newer omc primer bulb
i have checked the fuel system (thimble , hoses ,90 coming out of tank and all fittings with no air leaks) the pulse hose appears to be in good shape.

engine runs great until it runs out of gas then dies if you catch it before it dies and pump the bulb it runs great again.

so is there anything i am missing or does it just need a pump

i called the dealer and was quoted 360 for a pump (vro) or 90 for a premix pump so it will probably be replaced with the latter. any tips or suggestions appreciated.

I have a 1988 xp150 that the pump quit pumping fuel and was told I would need a new pump, but I raise a little hell because I had just bought one a year ago, so I took mine apart and found that the fuel part diapham had a tear in it which I showedto the parts man. He search a little harder and found a new one for $30, and didnt charge me for it. I have never heard of this proplem before and I read this forum alot, hope this helps. chinist

does anyone know a part number for the non vro version for this motor? buddy cant afford a new vro version right now
