    1998 Johnson 150 missing and sounds like a sneeze after restart

    1998 Johnson 150 missing and sounds like sneezing and kills after restart from running a wile! runs great but every time I kill the engine let it set for a wile when I try to restart it, it runs like crap and it wont stay running its missing sneezing or back firing and dieing I have to use the cold start at about 2500 rpms and let it run for about a min before I can put it in gear and go after that it runs great and idles fine, I live on the water I find myself pulling up to my dock and leaving the engine running if I’m going to run again soon!

    Tried pumping the fuel ball it’s always hard
    Changed the plugs and fuel filter

    Model number would be very helpful as there are different carbs for different models and the throttle bodies vary also. A good place to start for you though would be to check the head temps with either a thermo stick or a laser temp gun and let us know what the head temps are.

    Thanks for the reply, I’ll get the ser #, mod # and head temps late tomorrow evening if you’ll be kind enough to check back then, sorry 1st post didn’t realize how impotent that information was !

    couldn't get head temps. cant find a temp gun
    this may help motor is on a javelin 376 f/s, 6" jack plate, 24 raker, 5300 rpm @ wot full trim, 32 psi water pressure of the head and still running oil injection

    Try this try different trim angles while at idle and see if the sneeze goes away when you tuck it under and starts when you increase the trim angle.

    i have, not meaning to, pulling a tube or a skier i trim all the way down, doesn't seem to make a difference and it wont idle well enough without dieing so i cant go through a hole trim range. if i kill the motor for over 5 min after running a while the same thing every time i even tryed the choke
