Question, if prop nut is lose, will this cause lower unit to leak gear lube? This is a 1982/83 Johnson 9.9. Please help,thanks in advance!
Just because it's loose? Hardly not, however if sufficiently loose where there is any side to side movement you could have a problem. Chances are with enough lateral or side to side motion you could damage a seal and cause a leak and eventually a wrecked bearing. If the cotterpin has come out the prop nut is subject to spinning off and you losing the prop in REVERSE also. If it is leaking out of the output shaft bearing seal you need to have it looked at by a competent marine mechanic..........G
